Offer description

Special Counsel, Competition Law, Regulatory & General Commercial

Our national Corporate & Commercial group advises clients across various sectors on corporate and commercial transactions, including:

* M&A – private and public; domestic and cross-border
* Equity capital markets (ECM) and fundraising
* Private equity and venture capital
* Joint ventures, partnerships and restructures
* Complex commercial agreements
* Corporate governance and compliance
* Company secretarial matters

About the role

Based in our Sydney office, our practice seeks an experienced regulatory and commercial lawyer with specialised competition expertise. This critical role focuses on competition and consumer law while supporting transactions, particularly regarding ACCC merger reform. The role includes varied commercial work, especially in technology and related areas.

This is an opportunity to join Holding Redlich during an exciting growth period and work with partners nationally, particularly within the firm's TMC group and broader Corporate & Commercial group. Clients span healthcare, fintech, logistics, professional services, education and automotive sectors.

This position includes a key leadership role in mentoring and supervising team members, with strong career progression prospects. Operating as a true national practice, this role works closely with partners in Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra on interesting, complex and varied matters.

Given the seniority of this role, you will work directly with clients, operate autonomously, delegate tasks appropriately and provide technical feedback and direction.

About you

You will have at least seven years PAE specialising in transactions, ideally from a mid-tier or national law firm or specialist M&A firm. You will have excellent drafting and technical skills, advanced interpersonal skills and a track record of building trusted relationships with clients and colleagues.

You will have in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and market trends, especially merger regulations, and exposure to commercial agreements and issues including:

* Competition law
* Consumer law
* Software licensing and SaaS agreements
* Technology contract negotiation
* Data protection

To succeed in this role, you must have excellent critical thinking and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, while genuinely enjoying collaborative teamwork to deliver optimal client outcomes.

Benefits

Our benefits include:

* Professional success within a supportive environment from modern offices.
* Family‑friendly, dress for your day, flexible hours and flexible leave, including purchased leave, career breaks and study leave.
* Employee Assistance Program (EAP), flu vaccinations and social activities both inside and outside of the office.
* Employee recruitment referral bonus to recognise and reward individuals who contribute to our growth and success.

Community & Impact

We recognise the importance of contributing to our community by supporting various initiatives, providing legal aid through pro‑bono work, and promoting diversity and inclusion within the firm. This includes:

* Pro Bono Practice and Social Justice Fund
* Diversity, gender equality and wellbeing committees
* International connections through our membership of Law Exchange International
* Red Cross Life Blood group donations
