Primary objective
To lead, support and supervise the Sentence Management Team, to actively manage and achieve the unit's objectives. Conduct
integrated case management of a complex cohort of prisoners, compilation of institutional reports and stakeholder engagement.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Coordinate and conduct initial Offender Management Plans (OMP) and be responsible for allocating and managing workloads
of the Sentence Management Officers.
2. Provide leadership, direction, advice, support and training to Sentence Management Officers.
3. Source relevant information to produce timely institutional reports to meet critical deadlines.
4. Ensure the Sentence Management policies and procedures comply with the relevant legislation and participate in the
development and implementation of initiatives relating to offender management.
5. Provide assessments and reports as required, and maintain accurate, legible and proficient case notes, records and statistics.
6. Participate in the ongoing development and implementation of sentence management policies and procedures and the
Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS).
7. Carry out duties as requested by the Chief Correctional Officer, Sentence Management.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in identifying the criminogenic risks and needs of offenders, the development of associated offender
management plans and knowledge of the principles of case management and motivational interviewing.
2. Extensive knowledge of contemporary correctional practices and procedures.
3. Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australian society and the ability and
commitment to work within a cross-cultural environment effecting change.
4. Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills, strong proof reading, attention to detail and analytical skills.
5. High level of experience in the use of MS office suite, database systems, electronic media, and software package applications.
6. Ability to work autonomously, as well as in a team within a high-volume work environment, manage confidential and sensitive
information, manage time effectively, prioritise workloads and approach issues in an innovative way.
7. Interpersonal skills of a high standard, especially the ability to communicate effectively and interact with staff and clients at all
levels including Aboriginal as well as other culturally diverse groups.
8. Knowledge and understanding of the requirement and limitations of working within a complex secure environment.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the objectives, structure and legislation of Northern Territory Correctional Services.
2. Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioural Sciences or associated field.
