UnitingCare Queensland is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead St Stephen's Hospital, Hervey Bay, a 96-bed, 5 theatre private not-for-profit hospital recognised as Australia's first fully integrated digital hospital.
Reporting to the Group Executive, Hospitals, the General Manager is accountable for the hospital's overall performance, including clinical outcomes, financial sustainability, workforce engagement, medical relationships and community standing. This is a highly visible, on-site leadership role suited to an experience healthcare and hospital executive who thrives in complex regional environments and is motivated by purpose as well as performance.
A high performing hospital looking to further enhance and grow with longer-term expansion plans under consideration, this role offers both an immediate executive operational challenge and longer-term strategic opportunity.
The Position
As General Manager, you will provide end-to-end leadership of the hospital, balancing strong commercial discipline with UnitingCare's mission and values. Key responsibilities include:
* Full accountability for financial, operational and clinical performance, including P&L, EBITDA, utilisation, length of stay and workforce outcomes
* Leadership of a multidisciplinary executive team, fostering a high-performance, values-driven culture
* Building trusted relationships with Visiting Medical Practitioners, clinicians, public-sector and community partners
* Driving service mix optimisation, with a focus on growing surgical services whilst managing a strong medical case mix
* Representing the hospital with credibility across the local community and broader UnitingCare system
Background and skillset sought:
* Senior executive leadership experience in a private or private not-for-profit hospital (or comparable senior public healthcare/hospital role)
* Demonstrated accountability for hospital operations, financial performance and clinical quality
* Strong commercial and operational acumen, with the ability to lead within shared services and group governance models
* A visible, relationship-oriented leadership style, well suited to a regional community setting
* Alignment with UnitingCare's values and commitment to compassionate, ethical, patient-centred care

St Stephen's Hospital is a modern, 96-bed private not-for-profit hospital co-located with the Hervey Bay public hospital. The hospital delivers a broad mix of services including general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, oncology services, renal dialysis and a growing rehabilitation program.
