The Department of Education's Risk and Assurance Directorate is establishing a Consultant (Level 5) pool for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part­-time vacancies which may arise up until the end of September 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Context
The Department of Education's strategic plan outlines the commitment for every child to enjoy a high quality of education. This is an education underpinned by excellence in teaching, quality leadership and pathways from Kindergarten to Year 12 to meet the needs of the learner in preparing them to take the next step into the world of work or further education.

The Professional Standards and Conduct Division is responsible for the delivery of a range of integrated functions and oversees the Standards and Integrity Directorate, Risk and Assurance Directorate, Legal and Legislative Services Directorate, Parent Liaison Office and the Screening Unit.

The Risk and Assurance Directorate delivers high-level audit and risk management expertise with an emphasis on a quality audit and risk management program that addresses organisational accountability and supports a broad client need across the Department. The Directorate's services include:

* provide assurance to the Director General and the Audit and Risk Committee that the Department's financial and operational controls are operating in an efficient, effective, economical and ethical manner
* assist management in improving the Department's business performance
* provide a risk advisory function with its focus on assisting staff to manage risks effectively
* undertake a governance function for the Department's externally available policies and delegations.

The Roles
The positions to fill from this process are:

Consultant – Risk (Level 5)
As Consultant – Risk, you will support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Department's risk management and business continuity frameworks. This includes contributing to enterprise risk reporting, supporting business impact analyses, and maintaining risk systems and documentation.

Working under the direction of the Manager, Risk and Policy Governance, you will provide advice to stakeholders, assist with data analysis and risk reporting, and contribute to building capability in risk management and resilience across the Department.

Consultant – Policy Governance (Level 5)
As Consultant – Policy Governance, you will contribute to the implementation, review, and administration of the Department's policy governance framework, delegation instruments, and CEO Instructions. Your role will support alignment with legislative requirements and strategic objectives by maintaining governance systems, tracking policy enquiries, and facilitating compliance processes.

You will work closely with stakeholders across the Department to provide advice, assist with policy development and review, and support the effective operation of policy governance mechanisms and approvals.

Consultant – Audit and Assurance (Level 5)
As Consultant – Audit and Assurance, you will support the delivery of the Department's internal audit and assurance program. This includes preparing papers and minutes for the Audit and Risk Committee, assisting with the management of internal audit contractors, and contributing to audit frameworks, policies, and reporting.

Working under the direction of the Manager, Audit and Assurance, you will provide administrative and organisational support, prepare executive-level reports and briefings, track system-wide audit recommendations, and work closely with the Audit and Risk Committee and other stakeholders to ensure audit and assurance processes are effective and well governed.

* Well-developed oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to undertake consultations and collaborations, build effective networks and work constructively as part of a team.

Consultant – Audit and Assurance (Level 5)

* Extensive relevant experience in a team based administrative environment, including the development and maintenance of office systems and procedures.
* Well-developed research, conceptual and analysis skills, including the ability to identify, generate and deliver innovative solutions to complex problems and issues.
* Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
