Employment Type: Full-time (37.5 hrs) and part-time (22.5 hrs)

Contract: Fixed-term 24-month contract (with possibility of ongoing and full-time employment)

Location: Perth, Western Australia

Remuneration: Level 2.1 to 3.4 (Depending on experience and qualifications)

About the Role

A Recovery Coach assists participants with Psychosocial disabilities in building capacity and resilience through strong, respectful relationships to live a full and contributing life. This support is designed to be able to maintain engagement through periods of increased support needs due to the episodic nature of the mental illness. Recovery coaches work collaboratively with participants, families, carers, and other services to identify, plan, design and coordinate NDIS supports. NDIS participants will be assisted in taking more control of their lives and better managing the complex challenges of day-to-day living.

* Through strong and respectful relationships and skilled coaching, people will be supported to build capacity, including strengths and resilience.
* Recovery coaches will work collaboratively with participants, their families, carers and supports to design, plan, implement and adjust a recovery plan.
* They will collaborate with the broader service system and will assist with the coordination of mental health-specific NDIS and other supports.

Responsibilities

The Psychosocial Recovery Coach is responsible for supporting the development of the Psychosocial Recovery Coach practice within Avenues Australia.

Service Delivery

* Support clients and carers to understand their NDIS plan, goals and objectives.
* Support clients to develop, implement, monitor and adjust a personal recovery plan.
* Build a recovery-enabling relationship based on hope.
* Coordinate the supports in an individual's NDIS plan by:
o researching, coordinating and managing complex and intersecting supports to suit individual needs across multiple providers while ensuring client choice and control; and
o working with mainstream service providers, including negotiating services and prices to ensure maximum value for money is achieved, and service obligations are met.
* Coaching to build on strengths, knowledge, skills, resilience, and decision-making with the aim of greater choice, control and independence in managing their personal choices.
* Arrange any assessments needed to determine the nature and type of funding required.
* Decide the budget for each support type and advise any relevant plan manager of the breakdown of funds.
* Liaise with plan managers and/or NDIS to establish the appropriate claim categories and attribute funds accordingly.
* Assist clients in preparing for plan reviews by helping them assess whether they achieved their goals and got value for money for their plan, identify solutions to problems experienced in implementing the plan, and consider new goals.
* Assist clients in communicating with the NDIA when required to support their plan requirements.
* Resolve any crisis by linking participants with mental health, health and other services, particularly when they are unwell.

Underpinning Knowledge

* Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and symptoms, treatments, medications, interventions, regional mental health and allied health providers.
* Sound understanding of the causes of stigma and barriers faced by those with mental ill-health.
* Understands the episodic nature of mental illness and collaborates with relevant services to plan and maintain engagement through periods of increased support needs.
* Working knowledge of the service support providers, including mainstream, community-based, and specialist.
* Strong knowledge and understanding of dual diagnoses, including alcohol and other drugs, ABI, and physical and intellectual disability.

Finance and Performance

* Ensure that the Support Coordination component in the client's NDIS plans is implemented in line with NDIA frameworks.
* Ensuring that NDIS Plans are tracked and reviewed 3 months before the end of the Plan.
* Continually achieve and monitor billable hours associated with service delivery.

Other Duties

* Conduct other duties as directed.

Qualifications

* Certificate IV and above in any qualification related to Community Services, Mental Health, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or any allied health tertiary qualification or other equivalent postgraduate qualification.
* Minimum of 2 years' experience in mental health-related work.
* Current Driver's License and ability to undertake travel within the Perth Metro as required.
* Mental Health First Aid
* Current First Aid and CPR credentials.

Upon acceptance into the role, the candidate will be required to obtain the following:

* Valid Working with Children Check
* NDIS Worker's Screening and/or National Police Clearance.
