Your role at St John of God Midland Public Private Hospitals
As the Medical Education Officer, you will be responsible for the organisation and evaluation of the medical training and accreditation of junior doctors. You will be responsible for ensuring that organisational and management support is provided for the education and training of junior medical officers, coordinating educational activities, orientation and external education programs to ensure the ongoing development of medical staff, in accordance with the requirements of the Postgraduate Medical Council of Western Australia (PMCWA).
This position if offered on a part-time basis at.4Fte (30.4 hours per fortnight) with the possibility that it may become a full-time role in the future.
The Position
In collaboration with the Manager Medical Services, Director of Postgraduate Medical Education (DPGME) and respective Directors of Clinical Training (DCTs)- Coordinate, organise, implement and evaluation of:
- Medical education programs within the Hospital including weekly JMO teaching and Hospital Grand Rounds.- In-hospital and/or national clinical skills development training programs and other relevant clinical skills competency assessments; and- Junior Doctor orientation program.- Assist in monitoring of the quality of training and supervision of JMOs by being part of the teaching, feedback, learning opportunities, appraisal and assessment processes.- Maintain education and training tracking systems and regular reporting systems.- Develop and maintain appropriate evaluation tools for the purpose of evaluation of all medical education programs, inductions and orientation programs, simulation-based learning programs and reports on these findings.- Develop and maintain professional relationships with the junior medical officers in order to provide career support and mentoring. Identify junior doctors in difficulty and refer to the DCT where appropriate.- Develop and maintain professional working relations with DCTs, Heads of Departments and other senior clinicians involved in the education, training and supervision of JMOs.- Administration of junior doctor mid-term appraisal and end of term assessment and feedback processes, including international medical graduates (IMGs).- Manage online medical assessment resources software program.- Liaise with Medical Workforce JMO coordinator and PMCWA regarding information given to prospective doctors. Provide secretarial support to the Prevocational Training Committee, Director of Clinical Training forum, including minute taking, agenda and action item distribution.- Represent PGME Department and the Hospital on relevant committees and platforms throughout Department of Health and PMCWA and attend Medical Education Workshops and networking groups including those facilitated by PMCWA.- Coordinate the intern centralised recruitment process in conjunction with PMCWA.- Assist with the coordination of relevant events, e.g. Medical Careers Expo, Junior Doctor Health and Wellbeing programs and other educational junior doctor events as directed by the Manager Medical Services.- Work with the Director of PGPME to monitor and approve JMOs' professional development leave requests.
You will have previous experience in a similar role, providing support to Junior Medical Officers (JMOs) in a health care setting and you will be able to demonstrate experience in the monitoring of training programs and feedback evaluation.
You will understand the principles of education and training program development in a health-related field.
