The role
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join our Finance team in Bibra Lake on a fixed-term contract of 9–12 months. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role is responsible for the accurate and timely end-to-end processing of payroll, ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation and applicable Modern Awards.
The position supports the organisation by maintaining payroll data integrity, managing statutory obligations including reporting to the Australian Taxation Office, and ensuring superannuation compliance in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act. As a standalone role, the Payroll Officer plays a critical part in delivering precise payroll outcomes, maintaining strict confidentiality, and supporting financial reconciliations and reporting requirements.
Key responsibilities
* End-to-end processing of fortnightly payroll
* Accurate calculation and processing of wages, salaries, overtime, allowances, penalties, and loadings in compliance with relevant Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and Fair Work legislation
* Preparation and lodgement of Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting
* Reconciliation of payroll accounts, including wages clearing, PAYG withholding, superannuation and payroll tax
* Preparation and reconciliation of monthly payroll journals for Finance
* Lodgement and reconciliation of payroll tax obligations in line with relevant State Revenue Office requirements
* Lodgement and reconciliation of superannuation obligations in accordance with legislative requirements
* Administration of salary sacrifice arrangements and processing and reconciliation of workers' compensation payments.
* Maintenance of accurate employee payroll records and data integrity within the payroll system
* Generating payroll reports and facilitating both internal and external audits
* Ensuring ongoing compliance with Fair Work, taxation and superannuation legislation
* Maintenance of payroll system configurations, including pay codes, award rules and deduction categories
* Investigation and resolution of payroll discrepancies and complex payroll queries
* Participation in user acceptance testing (UAT) for system integrations and enhancements
* Assistance with other finance-related duties as directed by the Finance Manager
Qualifications and experience
* Demonstrated experience of 3+ years in a payroll role, managing end-to-end payroll processing for approximately 150 employees.
* Ability to work independently to ensure payroll is processed accurately and on schedule, in compliance with company policies.
* Sound working knowledge of EBA interpretation and relevant Fair Work Act (FWA) and ATO legislation.
* Demonstrates a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, alongside a strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
* Prior experience with Employment Hero payroll systems is highly desirable.
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including use of formulas, data validation, and reconciliation tools.
