Job Details
The
Project Manager
role sits within the
Positioning Australia Branch
in the
Space Division
and is responsible for project management activities supporting the
SouthPAN Program
.
The role maintains a strong working relationship with
Land Information New Zealand (LINZ)
, supporting the joint delivery and operation of SouthPAN.
This position manages one of the projects within a large, high-value program that includes multiple technical and infrastructure projects and complex stakeholder arrangements delivered across multiple organisations and countries.
The project is currently in the
establishment (acquisition) phase
.
The Project Manager is responsible for the project management function, providing leadership and integration to improve outcomes across the full lifecycle of program implementation and sustainment.
The role reports to the
EL2 Senior Project Manager
.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
The Project Manager will:
* Apply professional project management skills and expertise to achieve complex project outcomes
* Plan, execute and deliver projects according to defined timelines, budgets and quality standards
* Develop detailed project plans including scope, schedule, resource allocation and risk management strategies
* Monitor project progress, identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
* Prepare and present regular status reports to senior management and stakeholders
* Ensure compliance with organisational policies, standards and governance frameworks
* Build and sustain long-term working relationships with key stakeholders, including peers, colleagues and partner organisations
* Undertake knowledge transfer to GA/LINZ project management teams, including delivering project management training
* Adhere to APS Values and the Code of Conduct, behaving in an honest, ethical and professional manner

* Minimum 7+ years experience in project management, with a focus on large-scale or complex programs
* Strong understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid)
* Proven ability to manage schedules and project deliverables
* Proficiency with project management tools (e.g. MS Project)
* Experience delivering Government programs
* Strong interpersonal skills

is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of the SouthPAN program through structure, governance and coordination.

The team works collaboratively with engineering, operations and partner organisations across Canberra and Wellington.
About The Project
The Australian and New Zealand Governments are jointly delivering improved positioning, navigation and timing services through a Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) capability known as
SouthPAN
.
The system supports industries including transport, resources, agriculture, spatial services and utilities.
SouthPAN is a joint undertaking between
Geoscience Australia
and
Land Information New Zealand
, working with a prime systems integrator during establishment and through the 15-year sustainment period.
