Primary objective
As a member of the Theatre and Day Patient Units provide technical assistance and work co-operatively within the team to
ensure the needs of patients and their families and carers are met.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure the Operating Theatre and Day Patient Unit environment meets the current infection controls and Australian
College of Operating Room Nurse (ACORN) standards
2. Prepare and maintain specific operating equipment and ancillary products in line with guidelines and delegations
3. Transporting patients and clinical supplies, setting up operating theatres, cleaning and maintain theatre equipment and
assisting with the positioning of patients
4. Comply with quality management policies and procedures, and participate in quality management activities
5. Assist in maintaining a safe work environment by reporting any incidents or unsafe work practices, sites / areas or
equipment
6. Other tasks and duties as requested by senior technician or Clinical Nurse Manager
7. Follow defined services quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to apply infection control principles, manage waste and biohazard materials
2. Demonstrated experience in hospital or similar clinical environment with regards to workflows and processes
1. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and support productive working relationships
2. Demonstrated capacity to effectively organise and prioritise workloads
3. Demonstrated interpersonal skills to enable effective communication with health care professionals from diverse
cultures, whilst maintaining strict confidentiality and professionalism
6. Holds a Certificate lll in Health Services Assistance (Operating Theatre Support) or equivalent
7. Demonstrated initiative, reliability and punctuality with ability to learn theoretical and manual requirements for the
provision of services
8. Availability and willingness to work shift work
