Primary objective
To provide a high level of administrative, secretarial and project management support to the Senior Director, Big River and the regional
Schools and Regions Branch team.
Context statement
All divisions within the department are responsible for providing support, strategic and operational advice to assist the organisation to
improve its performance and deliver quality education services across the Northern Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level executive administrative, secretarial and project management support to the regional senior director and their team
within the region.
2. Processing correspondence, maintaining records using TRM, initiating follow-up action to ensure deadlines are met, handling
telephone inquiries, scheduling appointments and meetings, compiling and distributing meeting papers, making travel arrangements
and welcoming visitors to senior executive meetings.
1. Research and prepare high level confidential and sensitive briefings, submissions, reports and correspondence
2. Liaise effectively and discreetly with all levels of staff within the department, and with external stakeholders.
3. Build and sustain collaborative relationships and with a variety of stakeholders including the Chief Executive, senior departmental
staff members, other government agencies and external stakeholders.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven successful experience working for a senior executive demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
including with the senior executives and experience of high level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
2. Politically astute with proven capability to operate effectively in a politically sensitive environment while maintaining high standards
of professionalism, ethics, departmental values and accountability.
3. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills with the capacity to prioritise and meet competing deadlines and work
under pressure while maintaining quality of end product.
1. Proven ability to develop, maintain, apply and provide advice on procedures for administrative processes such as procurement, credit
card management, travel arrangements and records management.
5. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and agile team, demonstrating ability to achieve outcomes using problem solving and
influencing skills.
6. Ability to perform to a high standard with personal resilience, reliability, integrity, accountability.
7. Ability to implement robust monitoring and evaluation systems to identify areas for continuing improvement.
8. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Desirable
1. Bachelor level or post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
2. Knowledge and understanding of government and departmental processes including preparing high level reports, discussion papers
and correspondence including Ministerial and executive briefings.
3. Contemporary knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
4. Knowledge the strategic directions and objectives of the Department of Education and Northern Territory Government.

One position is available, locating in either Darwin or Katherine. If based in Darwin – travel to Katherine is required with overnight or
