Hepatitis Australia, incorporated in 1997, is the national peak body representing the interests of the almost 340,000 people living with hepatitis B and hepatitis C, and the State and Territory Community Hepatitis Organisations. Since the organisation’s inception, Australia’s response to hepatitis has been underpinned by a strong partnership approach between people living with viral hepatitis; affected communities and priority populations; community organisations; the Australian Government; State and Territory governments; research and health professionals.
We are a value driven organisation and in line with the World Health Assembly, the World Health Organisation and the Australian Government are aiming to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030. In doing this, they are passionate about empowering and enabling affected communities. Their focus is to further prevent the transmission of the diseases and enable equitable access to prevention strategies, testing, treatment and support.
**Key Responsibilities include**:
- Provide strategic and cultural leadership including oversight of a strategic plan, identification of strategic risk management and fostering a culture of transparency, collaboration, accountability and integrity.
- Establish and maintain a cooperative productive working relationship with the CEO providing support in line with the organisation's mission, strategic, risk, business and operational plans and KPI’s. Also leading the Board in relation to negotiations for the CEO's employment contract, compensation and formal appraisal.
- Leadership and management of the Board in effectively discharging its governance, compliance and fiduciary responsibilities. The President will also Chair all Board meetings ensuring effective use of time, shape meeting agendas, emphasising goals, strategy, risk management, financial, and executive performance.
**Experience**:
- You will have a demonstrated governance experience and strategic risk management and a record of achievement as a Board Chair ideally gained within the Not-for-Profit sector.
- Experience working with Federal experience working with Federal or State Government health agencies is also essential in providing strong advocacy in representing the organization to achieve its strategic objectives.
- Collaborative, respectful and inclusive leadership style and the ability to build a productive team culture and strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Lived/living experience of viral hepatitis preferable but not essential.
- Most importantly the Chair must be aligned with the values and strategic mission of the organisation in supporting the viral hepatitis community.
The Board meets six times per year, with subcommittees meeting on a regular basis. Participation may also be required at other functions and Board activities.
This is a pro-bono board role with reimbursement of approved expenses provided as defined by HA policy.
