ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Council's Finance team sits within the Corporate Performance Directorate and provides expert leadership and guidance in all aspects of Council's finances and end-to-end financial processes, including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, rates, valuations, revenue recovery and financial analytics.

The Rates team is part of the Finance team and is committed to providing high-quality service to all stakeholders, including our Community and Executive team as well as all Council staff. The team delivers timely and accurate advice, utilises best practice methods, procedures and continuous improvement methodologies while developing new and innovative solutions in a consultative and customer-focused manner.

In contributing to this vision the Rates Officer is responsible for ensuring that all operations of rating are processed according to established work plans, Council policies and appropriate legislation, as well as providing high-quality customer service and advice to internal and external customers.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

* Minimum three years experience working in a Local Government Rates role or relevant tertiary qualifications equivalent to Certificate IV in Business Administration
* Advanced verbal and written communication skills
* Sound knowledge and understanding of the relevant sections of the Local Government Act 1993 relating to Rates & Property
* Demonstrated prioritisation skills and the ability to manage multiple issues with competing deadlines concurrently, and to interpret and apply relevant legislation in a statutory/regulatory environment
* Demonstrated skills in developing and utilising rating software
* Proven ability to be meticulous and pay attention to detail in work-related activities
* Proven ability to work productively as a member of a team and contribute to team goals
* Class C NSW Driver's Licence


ABOUT THIS ROLE

* Full-time position
* 70 hours per fortnight
* Access to Council's 9‑day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO)
* Located at Council's Merrylands office with occasional travel across Council worksites and may be required to work across any of Council's work locations


SALARY INFORMATION

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

* Grade 9 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,503.92 to $1,842.30 per week plus 12% superannuation
* The commencing salary will be negotiated taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role


WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO HAVE FOR THIS ROLE

* Ability to provide information for pre‑employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre‑employment medical examination as required
* Participation in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council's Health Monitoring Procedure as required
