About the role
Latrobe Regional Health is looking for a Senior Palliative Care Counsellor & Staff Support Worker to join our growing team on a part time (0.6EFT) fixed term basis until 24 April 2027.
The Senior Palliative Care Counsellor and Staff Support Worker provides advanced psychological, end‐of‐life, grief and bereavement counselling to patients and families experiencing complex palliative care needs across Gippsland. This senior role delivers clinical leadership, mentoring, education and structured staff support to health professionals. Through face‐to‐face and telehealth models, the role strengthens patient care, workforce capability and wellbeing while supporting high‐quality, safe and compassionate palliative care across regional and sub‐regional services.

Responsibilities
* Provide specialist end‐of‐life, grief and bereavement counselling to patients and families with complex psychosocial needs.
* Deliver clinical leadership and professional role modelling within the PCCG multidisciplinary team and to health professionals across the region.
* Lead and facilitate regional and sub‐regional staff support activities, including reflective practice sessions, debriefs and mentoring of palliative care staff.
* Plan, develop and deliver education programs related to grief, bereavement and psychological aspects of palliative care.
* Support workforce wellbeing by providing expert consultation, guidance and support to clinicians and students across Gippsland.
* Contribute to PCCG service development, quality initiatives and other duties as directed by manager.
About you
* A relevant qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or a related discipline, with eligibility for or current membership/registration with a professional body.
* At least five years clinical and counselling experience in grief, bereavement and/or palliative care settings.
* Advanced skills facilitating group support, reflection, debriefing and mentoring for healthcare staff and students.
* Leadership capability, with the ability to guide, educate and support multidisciplinary teams in a complex care environment.
* Current drivers licence as travel will be required.
* Post graduate qualifications in grief and bereavement and/or palliative care, and experience in quality, research or service development initiatives (desirable).
