We are recruiting for an experienced Data Scientist with prior experience in the horse racing industry to guide and assist with a thoroughbred racing analytics project focused on identifying predictors of elite performance.
This is a contract role that would offer a hybrid work set up based in South Melbourne/ or could be remote for the right candidate.
Objective:
Develop a predictive framework to identify characteristics associated with top-tier success, with the ultimate goal of informing yearling purchase decisions.
Scope includes:
* Data exploration and feature engineering
* Statistical modelling to identify significant predictors
* Development of a scoring/ranking system for yearlings
* Clear interpretation of results for practical decision-making
* Hands on experience in SQL Database
* Demonstrated experience using AWS
* Strong background in statistics and predictive modelling
* Experience with structured/tabular datasets
* Familiarity with Bayesian or hierarchical models (highly regarded)
* Experience in sports analytics, betting markets, or similar domains (advantageous but not required)
