The HSEA Specialist plays a pivotal role in enhancing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) performance across our sites. Collaborating closely with site leadership, Plant Managers, and regional managers, the Specialist ensures compliance with Graymont's standards and regulatory requirements. This role embodies the stewardship of environmental, health, and safety initiatives and serves as a local custodian for these processes.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the role supports Graymont's operations in the Riverton Quarry, with the ideal candidate based 45 minutes away in Tenterfield, New South Wales or other nearby locations. In addition, the specialist oversees site administration activities, aligns with Graymont's policies, and supports site leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and sustainable operations while supporting local community needs.


Key Focus Areas The Role Will Include


Health & Safety Management

* Advocate for site-wide health and safety compliance and proactive risk management.
* Facilitate hazard identification, incident investigation, and incident resolution processes.
* Coordinate injury management programs and liaise with regulatory authorities.
* Facilitate regulatory inspector visits, audits, and compliance activities.
* Stay updated on PPE advancements and ensure employees have access to appropriate equipment.
* Train employees and contractors on HSE practices and site requirements.


Environmental Stewardship

* Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, licences, and permit conditions.
* Conduct environmental audits, monitoring, sampling, and product testing.
* Manage environmental licences and permits and support regulatory reporting.
* Lead site rehabilitation activities and support long‑term sustainability initiatives.
* Foster positive community engagement, including facilitating community meetings and sponsorships.
* Address environmental and community stakeholder concerns in a timely and professional manner.


Workplace Culture and Collaboration

* Promote a culture of excellence in safety, environmental stewardship, and quality performance.
* Influence employees, supervisors, and leaders to take accountability for HSE outcomes.
* Facilitate effective HSE training and support site leaders in meeting their responsibilities.
* Collaborate with internal networks of HSE specialists to share best practices and drive continuous improvement.
* Communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.


Influence and Compliance

* Encourage accountability for safe behaviours and environmental compliance across sites.
* Develop, implement, and monitor HSE performance metrics and improvement initiatives.
* Conduct investigations of HSE incidents and implement preventative and corrective actions.
* Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards through effective systems, tools, and reporting.
* Provide coaching and guidance to leaders and employees to strengthen HSE performance.


Administrative Duties

* Manage visitor and contractor protocols, including safety inductions and access control.
* Support site reception, dispatch, and general communication requirements.
* Collaborate with accounts payable to resolve order and invoice discrepancies.
* Maintain confidential records and documentation in accordance with company requirements.
* Support continuous improvement of site administrative and HSEA processes.


Ideally, the successful candidate will have the following attributes and qualifications:


Essential

* Recognized qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety, Environment, or Quality Management, or equivalent experience.
* Strong understanding of HSE regulatory requirements and practical implementation.
* Proven ability to build relationships and influence at all organisational levels.
* Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement and risk management.
* Excellent time management, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related applications.
* Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to site locations.
* Right to work in Australia.


Desirable

* Qualifications in Workplace Training and Assessment.
* Experience in auditing and lead auditor training.
* Experience in industrial, mining, manufacturing, or heavy industry environments.
