About Kimberley Ports Authority
The Kimberley Ports Authority (KPA) is based in the town of Broome, Western Australia. The Authority operates the Port of Broome and has the regulatory responsibility for the ports of Derby, Yampi Sound and Wyndham, also in the Kimberley region of WA. KPA employs more than 85 staff delivering a diverse range of operational, maintenance and administrative services.
The Role:
We are currently seeking a motivated and suitably skilled Mechanical Supervisor that would like to join the Port in a permanent capacity. The role is predominantly required to provide daily supervision and direction to KPA’s tradespeople, maintenance employees, Contractors and other KPA employees engaged to undertake maintenance works or maintenance projects. This is a Monday-Friday day work role based at the Port of Broome.
In this ‘hands on’ supervisors role your responsibilities will be diverse and can include, but not limited to:
- Ensuring KPA infrastructure and assets are maintained in a good state of repair;
- Carry out audits and inspections on KPA infrastructure;
- Cost effective and timely procurement of good and services;
- Ensuring good working relationships are maintained with employees, contractors and service providers.
- Internal rostering completed in accordance with KPA’s Stevedoring and Maintenance Enterprise Agreement
- Leading daily pre-start meetings for the maintenance team
- Ensure work orders are correctly filled in and closed out
- Plan and schedule maintenance requirements
- Carry out repairs to KPA infrastructure, plant and equipment as required;
- Carry out periods of out of hours on call duties on a rotating basis.
About You:
You will share a passion for our purpose and be aligned to our core values. In addition, you will demonstrate:
- Fitter, Mechanical Trade or Electrical Trade Certificate;
- Experience in planning and executing maintenance works or projects in a heavy industrial operating environment
- Experience co-ordinating and supervising a number of tradespeople and a number of projects simultaneously
- Experience establishing and managing project documentation, safety documentation, quality documentation, timesheets, cost coding etc.
- Strong communication and influencing skills (verbal & written)
- Good organisational and problem solving skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to communicate and work with diverse groups of people
- Experience in Hydraulics
- Experience in mobile plant eg Cranes
- A hands-on team player; and
- A demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety

The role is based in Broome (NOT FIFO) and requires occasional travel to other Ports in the Kimberley. Please note, as part of our pre-employment process successful applicants will be required to pass medical, drug and alcohol screening and national police clearance.
