OverviewThe Strategy Director is a commercial leader and creative strategist who plays a pivotal role in shaping the Industry Growth Team's approach across Evolving (Health & Wellness, Beauty), Emerging (Entertainment, Finance, Insurance, Utilities & Superannuation), and Established (Retail, Travel) client sectors.
This role sets the strategic direction for industry led solutions, drives proactive client engagement, and unlocks new revenue opportunities by uniting commercial, creative, and operational teams.
The Strategy Director works closely with industry leads, sales, publishing, product, partnerships and data teams, and reports directly to the Head of Industry Growth.ResponsibilitiesLead proactive industry strategies, pitch narratives and innovation ideas to drive client growth.Design and implement scalable commercial solutions aligned to client needs, audience behaviours, and market opportunities.Identify and shape incremental revenue opportunities across new formats, partnerships and data led solutions.Partner with publishing, product and data teams to commercialise new ideas and deliver innovation.Monitor campaign performance to optimise strategy approaches and improve pitching impact over time.Establish and embed best practices and strategic frameworks to elevate ideation, briefing and cross team collaboration.Provide strategic leadership and mentorship across all of Client Experience and Industry Growth.Who are you?
5+ years in a Strategy, Planning or Commercial role within a Media, Creative, PR Agency or Publishing business.Proven track record of supporting pitches, leading strategy development, or packaging new ideas into commercial offerings.Familiarity with media tools such as Roy Morgan, Nielsen AdIntel, IPSOS, GA4, SimilarWeb, Sensor Tower or social listening platforms.Experience developing strategic narratives, collaborating on campaign development and measuring performance outcomes.Strong commercial thinker with experience in both brand and performance media strategy.Able to communicate complex concepts with clarity, both in writing and presentations.Confident in interpreting audience, client and category insights to shape solutions.Skilled in cross functional collaboration, able to connect creative, editorial, commercial and product ideas.Comfortable working in ambiguity, with a bias for experimentation and continuous improvement.News BenefitsNews Benefits is our way of saying thank you to our people for their valued contribution to News, our audiences, clients and communities.
