Senior Business Analyst role enhancing Geospatial / GIS capabilities for a NSW Government organisation * Sydney based 6 month contract paying up to $900 plus Super per day with potential extension * Geospatial / GIS experience as a Business Analyst is required
Position Summary
A leading NSW Government organisation is seeking a highly experienced Senior Business Analyst to lead and support complex geospatial and GIS-related initiatives. This role is responsible for bridging business needs and technical solutions, ensuring geospatial projects deliver measurable value, align with strategic objectives, and meet stakeholder expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead business analysis activities for geospatial and GIS projects across the full project lifecycle
Elicit, analyse, document, and validate business, functional, and non-functional requirements related to spatial data and systems
Collaborate with GIS specialists, developers, data scientists, and project managers to translate business needs into clear technical specifications
Analyse geospatial workflows, datasets, and systems to identify opportunities for optimisation and innovation
Support the design and implementation of GIS solutions, including spatial analytics, mapping applications, and location-based services
Facilitate stakeholder workshops, interviews, and reviews to drive consensus and decision-making
Ensure requirements traceability and alignment with organisational strategy, governance, and standards
Contribute to change management, user acceptance testing, and solution adoption
Provide mentoring and guidance to junior analysts as required
Required Qualifications And Experience
Extensive experience as a Business Analyst on complex technology or data-driven projects
Demonstrated experience working on geospatial, GIS, or spatial data initiatives
Strong understanding of GIS concepts, spatial data models, and geospatial technologies (e.g., ESRI platform, QGIS, spatial databases)
Proven ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and user stories
Experience working in Agile, hybrid, or waterfall delivery environments
Excellent stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and communication skills
Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and documentation capabilities
Desirable Skills And Experience
Experience with spatial analytics, location intelligence, or geospatial data integration
Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and metadata standards
Background in industries such as infrastructure, environment, utilities, government, or transport
Business analysis certifications (e.g., CBAP, CCBA) or GIS-related qualifications
