The Senior Data Platform Engineer role is responsible for the design, build, support and maintenance of day-to-day operations and stability of cloud-based data platforms following best practices in security, integrity, and availability. This includes leading the investigation/resolving of technical issues in relation to the Data Platforms and providing relevant assistance to Data Platform Engineers, including upskilling and mentoring.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to Senior Manager of Data Platforms & Operations, the Senior Data Platform Engineer will be responsible for the design, build, support, and stability of cloud-based data platforms (Azure) following best practices in security, integrity, and availability. This entails primarily working closely with Data Platform Engineers, Test analysts and other Cloud/DevOps Engineers to design, build and update resources hosted in Azure Cloud Data Platforms as well as leading the investigation and resolving of technical issues.
* Guide and support the troubleshooting of platform incidents from investigation, root cause analysis to resolution,
* Design, build and support the maintenance of various azure cloud data platform services.
* Share, educate, mentor, and use best practices for building and deployment across several technologies (Azure DevOps, GitHub Enterprise).
* Work with other data platform operations and cloud engineers in ensuring adherence to standards related to process, cost and security, as well as continuous improvements.
* Support the adoption of uplifting the PlatformOps and DevOps practice through standardised methods, mentorship, and continuous improvements in core Platform Engineering competencies.
* Design and develop scripts for automation of every aspect of dev, build & deployment process.
* Working closely with Engineers and Testers to spike new features and deliver features to the platform.
Experience Required:
* This is a Senior Engineering role that requires 5 - 7 years of demonstrated work experience in a similar role.
* Demonstrable experience in supporting enterprise scale data platforms.
* Strong experience in Azure Cloud / Data Platform infrastructure.
* Strong familiarity with best practices in security and incident management.
* Knowledge in scripting in one or more languages (e.g.: Python, PowerShell, TM1) to implement and automate tasks.
* Hands on experience with any Infrastructure as a code solution (ARM templates, Bicep, Terraform etc)
* Experience preferred in Big Data Technologies such as Azure Databricks, Datalake, EventHub etc as well as strong knowledge of SQL and database technologies like Azure SQL/Data Factory and CosmosDB.
* Strong exposure to continuous integration/delivery tooling using Azure Devops/Github.
* Solid experience with azure cloud networking (eg: Virtual Network, Private Endpoint etc).
* Excellent communication and written skills to articulate technical information and collaborate with team members.
