Role
purpose
As a senior member of the Creative Services team, the Visual Design Lead is responsible for the management of a small team of visual designers, and the execution of the Department of Health's brand creative design solutions.
The role leads the development, design and publishing of the department's key assets and campaigns, both digital and print across a wide range of programs and initiatives.
The role also ensures the integrity of the organisation's visual brand, and provides high-level advice to stakeholders. The role will work with the Head of Creative Services, Head of Brand, Campaigns and Advertising, Marketing Director and teams across the department to manage the organisation's creative design within brand guidelines, including the development of tools, templates and assets.
Leading and mentoring a team of design professionals and liaising with external designers and agencies, the Visual Design Lead will effectively manage and balance priority work, stakeholder needs, and the delivery of high-quality creative products to enable achievement of the department's strategic objectives.
As appropriate, they may also be required to provide surge support to other portfolios to ensure effective media and communications services can be delivered by the Branch during emergency, crisis and peak periods.
Technical expertise
1. Demonstrated experience (3+ years) leading a team of designers to deliver a high volume of exceptional on-brand assets.
2. Advanced visual design experience across a range of media (8+ years), including a very strong digital and branding portfolio and experience in developing visual identities for use across all creative elements for high profile events
3. Demonstrated knowledge of design style and standards in a Victorian Government context would be advantageous.
4. Proven experience and proficiency in developing brand guidelines and style guides, and applying existing guidelines to new assets
5. Advanced skills in design software including the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, AfeterEffects and Illustrator.
6. High level experience in Microsoft Office applications, including developing and maintaining shared templates in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Qualifications
A tertiary qualification in fields related to communications, design or media would be highly desirable.
