The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to recruit a Contract Administrator and Project Coordinator to work in our Census Digital Service team.
About the role
The Census Digital Service (CDS) is a key part of the 2026 Census program, responsible for delivering the Census online form and the integrated myGov pathway for the 2026 Census.
In this role, you will play an important part in supporting the Census Digital Service by leading governance and contract administration activities across the team. You will help ensure strong governance frameworks are in place, support procurement processes, and maintain compliance with policies and standards. Your work will support effective decision-making, risk management, and the smooth delivery of digital services.
This role will also be required to support Census peak operational periods between May and October which will involve facilitating operational activities and participating in on-call arrangements as required.
Duties
As a Contract Administrator and Project Coordinator you will:
* ensure contract practices comply with legislation, policy and ABS standards
* lead planning and execution of contract extensions, closures and re-procurement
* lead strategic oversight of supplier performance
* maintain risk and issues registers with documented mitigation strategies
* maintain contract registers to support audit and compliance
* respond to formal audits and health changes and provide insights to senior executives
* build and maintain strategic supplier relationships
* manage financial oversight for project and contract activities, including budget request, forecasting and monitoring, working closely with the ABS finance team to support sound governance.
About you - skills and experience
The successful candidate will possess all, or most of the following:
* contract management and procurement expertise, including budget management (essential)
* understanding of Agile practices (essential)
* experience in project governance and risk management
* ability to deliver in a fast-paced environment
* ability to support governance frameworks and reporting
* strong oral and written communication skills
* ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes.
