Position Summary:
The Driller's Offsider plays a crucial role in supporting the efficient and safe operation of drilling projects. This position involves hands-on labour, equipment operation, and adherence to safety protocols. The ideal candidate is a physically fit, reliable, and motivated individual with a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities:
* Drilling Support:
* Assist the Driller in setting up and operating drilling rigs and associated equipment, requiring a valid MR Driver's License.
* Handle and connect augers, drill rods, casing, and other drilling components.
* Mix drilling fluids and muds according to specifications.
* Monitor drilling progress and assist in troubleshooting operational issues.
* Maintain accurate records of drilling activities.
* Assist in the development or decommission of wells.
* Assist in the recovery of soil samples.
* Equipment Maintenance:
* Perform routine maintenance and inspections of drilling equipment.
* Clean and lubricate equipment and vehicles as required.
* Identify and report equipment malfunctions to the Driller.
* Assist with the loading and unloading of equipment and supplies.
* Site Preparation and Cleanup:
* Prepare drilling sites by clearing obstructions and levelling the ground.
* Maintain a clean and organised work area.
* Assist with the restoration of drilling sites upon project completion.
* Assist in the installation of pumps and wellhead equipment.
* Safety Compliance:
* Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
* Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
* Participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
* Identify and report potential safety hazards.
* Follow all environmental regulations.
* General Labour:
* Perform general labour duties as assigned, including lifting, carrying, and digging.
* Assist with the transportation of materials and equipment.
* Work in various weather conditions.
* Assist with the sampling of water and/or soil.
* Assist with backfills of boreholes and/or wells.
Qualifications and Skills:
· Previous experience as a Drillers Offsider or in a similar hands-on role within the mining, resources or construction industry is advantageous.
· Mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate and maintain heavy machinery and equipment are highly regarded.
· Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
· A commitment to safety and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
· Effective communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a tight-knit team.
· MR-B or MR Unrestricted Driver's License (or working towards is essential)
· Minimum C Class Manual Drivers' License (essential)
· Forklift License (or working towards is essential.
· Ability to pass a pre-employment medical, including a drug and alcohol test.
· National Police Clearance within 6 months (or ability to obtain one)
· Construction Induction Card (White Card).
· First Aid and CPR Certificate (or willing to obtain)
