Role Description
Pacific has a highly regarded performing arts program. There is strong engagement from students in both classroom and co-curricular programs. Enthusiastic and capable dance and drama educators are invited to apply to join our team. As a new role in the College, the Dance and Drama Teacher P-9 will play a key role in the enhancement of the performing arts across P-6. The role is a P-9 teaching position. The classroom teacher is directly answerable to the Head of Department and is expected to contribute to the strengthening of College culture in the following areas.
Responsibilities and Focus Areas
- Strengthening Lutheran Identity
- Support and contribute to the growth of a strong Christian faith community through personal example and professional leadership, including participation in chapels and staff devotions.
- Support the Lutheran ethos of the College.
- Enhancing Excellence in Teaching and Learning
- Design and implement teaching and learning programs using contemporary knowledge and understanding of curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements.
- Apply current and comprehensive knowledge of the content and teaching strategies of their teaching area to develop engaging activities.
- Knowledge of current educational practice and QCAA syllabuses as they pertain to early, primary and middle years in their teaching area.
- Know and understand how young people of different ages learn and facilitate effective learning.
- Use formal and informal data to monitor and plan for effective teaching and learning, including internal and external data to track and enhance learning outcomes for individual students.
- Model high levels of pedagogical expertise, collaboration and teamwork in the enhancement of student outcomes.
- Plan and implement well-structured learning and teaching programs or lesson sequences that engage students and promote learning.
- Implement effective teaching strategies to improve students’ literacy and numeracy achievement.
- Create and select from a wide range of resources, including ICT, to engage students in their learning.
- Understand and participate in assessment moderation activities to support consistent and comparable judgements of student learning.
- Provide timely, effective and appropriate feedback to students about their achievement relative to their learning goals.
- Develop learning activities that incorporate differentiated strategies to meet the specific learning needs of students across a full range of abilities.
- Create a safe and supportive learning environment that provides a high standard of pastoral care in the role of classroom teacher.
- Actively support and use the restorative and wellbeing practices and initiatives of the College.
- Establish and implement inclusive and positive interactions to engage and support all students in classroom activities.
- Establish and maintain orderly workable routines to create an environment where student time is spent on learning tasks.
- Contribute to the growth of a culture of thinking that places high value on academic learning.
- Engage in Ongoing Improvement and Innovation
- Engage in ongoing professional learning to update knowledge and practice, targeted to professional needs and College priorities.
- Contribute to professional discussion with colleagues in a range of forums to evaluate practice directed at improving professional knowledge and practice, and the educational outcomes for students.
- Engage in reflection, collaborative planning, monitoring and review.
- Community Building
- Foster effective learning partnerships with students, staff, parents and members of the wider community.
- Demonstrate responsiveness in all communications with parents/carers about their children’s learning needs.
- Conduct conferences with parents and students.
- Act professionally at all times in dealing with students, peers, members of the profession and members of the community.
- Actively support the co-curricular program of the College.
- Leading Effective Organisation and Management
- Know and adhere to departmental and College policies and procedures.
- Attend and contribute to departmental and College staff meetings.
- Implement the College teaching and learning program that is consistent with QCAA requirements and follows the pedagogical approach of the College.
- Assess and report on student performance in line with the College’s curriculum, assessment and reporting framework.
- Collect evidence of student performance and keep updated student profiles and portfolios.
- Have an awareness of personal health and wellbeing for themselves and their colleagues.
- Adhere to the workplace health and safety requirements of the position.
Workplace Health and Safety
Effective implementation of the School’s Workplace Health and Safety Manual requires the active involvement of all employees. All employees have an obligation to comply with statutory and organisational requirements, procedures and rules that are intended to protect the health and safety of persons at the workplace including the general public. All Academic and Ancillary staff must perform work safely in accordance with the training they have received, follow lawful WHS instructions, report injuries, cooperate in safety activities, maintain good housekeeping, observe warning signs, seek instructions on hazards, wear appropriate clothing and PPE, operate authorised equipment, avoid interference with safety, and assist with risk assessments and accident investigations.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate or have the demonstrated capacity to develop the capabilities described below:
- SC 1 The demonstrated ability to support the Christian ethos of the College, its worship and devotional program.
- SC 2 Knowledge and demonstrated skills of contemporary educational practice including a high level of pedagogical expertise, and familiarity with the relevant QCAA and Australian syllabuses. A commitment to ongoing improvement in student learning within the College’s pedagogical framework, including planning and monitoring processes.
- SC 3 A demonstrated commitment to ongoing improvement and innovation in teaching and learning.
- SC 4 Demonstrated professional skills that foster effective learning partnerships with students, parents and the wider community, and strong pastoral care.
- SC 5 Demonstrated flexibility, teamwork, innovation and perseverance to support a robust K-12 learning culture and ongoing professional growth.
- SC 6 Demonstrated ability to support and enrich the co-curricular program, particularly in performing arts.
Conditions
Salary and related conditions are as per the current Lutheran Schools Enterprise Agreement. Teachers must possess or be eligible for registration within Queensland.
