About the opportunity
Looking to take the next step in your NSW Health Pathology career? We have an exciting opportunity for a part-time Research Scientist to join the South Eastern Sydney Immunology Laboratory at Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick. This role offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative clinical and research environment, contributing to high-quality immunology research that supports patient care and diagnostic innovation.
The successful applicant will be response for coordinating multicenter research studied and providing comprehensive support for ethics submission, grant applications, and manuscript preparation. The role involves managing research databases and performing laboratory testing related to hypersensitivity diagnostics, requiring organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
What you'll be doing
To conduct approved research studies under direction of the department head and conducting research activities as directed. These activities may include but are not limited to: assay performance; assay development; translation of research assays to a clinical setting; assay validations; development and documentation of protocols; co-operation with other research groups; storage of samples; preparation of manuscripts for publication; screening studies; population studies; presentation of research at conferences/workshops; compliance with operational standards and procedures, quality standards and continual process improvement.

* Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution
* Demonstrated experience in scientific/medical research
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services relevant to the laboratory, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Control Systems and computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite
* Well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
* Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment while working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes and contribute to a range of diagnostic skills relevant to the laboratory
* Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
* Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements
