Where you'll be working
Goulburn Base Hospital is in Southern NSW LHD, approximately 2 hours from Sydney (195 kms) and 1 hour from Canberra (90 kms). Goulburn is a regional city with a population of about 30,000. It is located on Gundungurra and Ngunnawal lands. The hospital has a Clinical Services Building with approximately 100 beds. The Emergency Department has Level 4 role delineation with 2 resuscitation beds, 6 acute beds (including 2 isolation rooms), and a rapid-track area. There are plans for expansion to a 4-bed EDSSU. The department is led by FACEMs, FACRRMs and GP VMOs with expertise in Emergency Medicine. A typical day handles 60-70 undifferentiated patients (adult and paediatric; about 22,000 per year) with high acuity and complexity, including some trauma. The Canberra Hospital is the nearest tertiary referral centre. Goulburn Base Hospital is the regional referral centre for Level 3 and Level 2 facilities in the Inland Network of Southern NSW LHD.
The ED is supported by services including Level 4 ICU with 24/7 on-site staffing, Anaesthetics with 24/7 cover, General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Paediatrics, Maternity and Rehabilitation Medicine. Mental Health services are on the Goulburn Hospital campus in the Chisholm Ross Centre. The hospital has a partnership with the ANU Rural Clinical School and a high-fidelity simulation facility used for teaching. It is currently accredited for JMO, ACRRM and RACGP training, with expansion to EMET and ACEM programs underway.

Your Opportunity
The Obstetrician and Gynaecologist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G;) Service to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The role includes providing specialist services to emergency patients, inpatients and outpatients at Goulburn Base Hospital. The Obstetrician and Gynaecologist will proactively:
- Support the development of O & G services
- Support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice
Selection Criteria
- Specialist registration or eligibility for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA and Fellowship of FRANZCOG and/or equivalent specialist recognition.
- Demonstrated recency of practice and clinical expertise in O&G; with the ability to work independently with complex emergencies at the service’s delineation level.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices aligned with the scope of practice.
- Proven capacity to provide high-quality services with participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and other staff.
- Demonstrated leadership and professional behavior appropriate for a Senior Medical Practitioner and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team across multiple sites.
- Commitment to NSW Health CORE values and SNSWLHD values, goals and strategies.
Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination (OASV) This is a Category A position. Please read NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must comply with the policy. OASV requirements include proof of vaccination against influenza and are mandatory for NSW staff entering Residential Aged Care Facilities or working in NSW Health RACFs.
