Build a portfolio career across Aged Care
DPA Exemption & open to Doctors with General Registration
Working in aged care is an excellent way to increase your income while building valuable skills in supporting elderly patients. Many doctors choose to take on just one or two flexible sessions each week, fitting the work around their clinic commitments and lifestyle.
Q: Why should I consider working in aged care?
A: It's a chance to supplement your income while gaining valuable skills in supporting elderly patients. Many GPs choose to work part-time while fitting it around clinic commitments. At Aged Care GP, we support doctors in delivering high-quality work in aged care without the admin burden. Our experienced team handles rostering, paperwork, and nurse triage so you can focus on patients.
Q: How does the work fit into my schedule?
A: You choose your working hours. Flexible daytime hours means it can suit working parents or GPs who want to balance lifestyle with traditional general practice work.
Q: How much can I earn?
A: Your earning potential depends on how many patients you see in a session/day. The work is bulk billed, so GPs working in aged care benefit through the GPACI payments, along with the upcoming Medicare Bulk Billing changes effective 1 November 2025.
Indicative GP earnings are:
Minimum $1,600 Gross billings per session (20 patients), up to $4,000 Gross billings per day (50 patients).
In addition to the above, GPs will also receive
- GPACI payments ($390 per patient, per year paid quarterly)
- Bulk Billing Practice Incentives Program (BBPIP) of 6.25% quarterly payment
*These are only indicative figures for VR doctors
Q: Why should I work with Aged Care GP?
A: There are several reasons:
- Doctor-led Privately owned and independent – no KPIs or pressure around patient numbers.
- Specialised technology tools that reduce paperwork, clinical assistants to streamline notes, and improve patient outcomes.
- Mentoring and peer support from the directors, including a Monash University lecturer.
- Monthly CPD-accredited clinical education sessions to keep your skills up to date.
- Onboarding support with nurses accompanying you during your initial sessions, plus ongoing assistance with care plans and proactive patient management.
- Collaborative, team-based culture with over 50 GPs already supporting more than 100 facilities.
Q: What's the minimum commitment?
A: Just one session (4 hrs) per week. You can start with 10–15 residents and grow at your own pace.
Q: Do I need to live in Adelaide?
A: Preferably, yes – but if you're based elsewhere, talk to us about travel allowances.
Q: What qualifications & experience do I need?
A: No prior experience in aged care is needed, however Specialist Registration in General Practice is ideal. This work qualifies for a DPA exemption. Doctors with General registration are encouraged to enquire with John.
