Infrastructure Lead – Secure Government Environment This opportunity sits within a secure Federal Government program delivering mission‑critical ICT capability in a highly regulated environment. The program supports stand‑alone and classified systems and works within strict engineering and security frameworks to ensure resilience, availability and compliance. You will join a highly skilled technical team supporting nationally significant systems.
About the Role The Infrastructure Lead will provide technical leadership across infrastructure platforms within a secure, isolated network environment. Working closely with architects, project managers, security teams and operations staff, you will be responsible for the design, build, configuration, maintenance and lifecycle management of critical infrastructure components.
This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to a senior infrastructure professional with strong experience across virtualisation, container platforms and secure environments.
Role Responsibilities
Lead the design, deployment and lifecycle management of secure infrastructure platforms
Develop, build, configure and maintain stand‑alone network environments
Manage patching, updates and configuration baselines within isolated systems
Ensure compliance with ISM, DSPF and security best practices
Provide technical leadership across VMware and Red Hat OpenShift platforms
Lead infrastructure planning and readiness for OpenShift and container adoption
Oversee Dell server infrastructure including installation, racking, cabling and capacity planning
Administer Dell iDRAC, performance monitoring, backup and recovery processes
Lead incident management activities including root cause analysis and recovery
Develop and maintain detailed architecture diagrams, SOPs and technical documentation
Mentor infrastructure engineers and administrators, building team capability
Collaborate with security, project management and operational teams
Monitor system performance, resource usage and plan for future growth
Qualifications and Experience Essential
Senior‑level experience with HCI platforms, including
VMware and Red Hat OpenShift
Experience working in Defence or other high‑security environments
Strong understanding of the Australian Government
Information Security Manual (ISM)
Experience integrating compute, storage and networking within HCI environments
Experience with automation and orchestration tools
Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Proven problem‑solving capability in complex technical environments
Desirable
Familiarity with
ACSC, DSPF and PSPF
frameworks
Experience with compliance reporting and risk assessment activities
