The Head of Finance / Group Financial Controller is responsible for owning the day-to-day finance function while acting as a trusted commercial partner to the CEO. The role combines hands‐on financial management with oversight of group reporting, board support, and trans‐Tasman operations, ensuring the business has clear financial visibility, strong controls, and practical commercial insight.
Key responsibilities
* Own the end‐to‐end finance function, including month‐end close, management reporting, and statutory reporting
* Prepare accurate and timely management and board reports, with clear commentary on performance, risks, and cash flow
* Manage budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
* Ensure compliance with tax, statutory, and regulatory requirements in Australia and New Zealand
Commercial finance & decision support
* Support the CEO and leadership team with commercial analysis across advertising inventory, venue contracts, sponsorships, and LED deployments
* Review and provide financial input into contracts, pricing, and revenue models, including revenue share and minimum guarantee arrangements
* Monitor profitability by client, venue, event, and campaign
Cash flow & working capital
* Manage cash flow forecasting and day‐to‐day cash management
* Oversee debtor collections, creditor payments, and working capital discipline
* Support basic financing arrangements and banking relationships as required
Capex & asset management
* Track and manage capex and fixed assets, including LED screens, control systems, and related infrastructure
* Support investment analysis and ROI assessment for new assets and upgrades
* Maintain accurate asset registers and depreciation schedules
Trans‐Tasman operations
* Oversee financial reporting and consolidation across Australia and New Zealand
* Support the NZ operation with consistent processes, controls, and reporting
* Manage intercompany transactions and cross‐border reporting requirements
* Support effective governance through accurate reporting and sound financial controls
* Act as a key finance contact for the Board, shareholders, auditors, and external advisors
* Identify financial risks and ensure appropriate controls are in place
Systems & process improvement
* Maintain and improve finance systems and processes to support a growing business
* Drive practical improvements in reporting, controls, and efficiency
* Work closely with operations, sales, and technology teams to ensure financial data reflects operational reality
Team & external management
* Lead, mentor, or coordinate a small finance team
* Build strong working relationships across the business
Skills & experience
* Senior finance leadership experience as a Head of Finance, Group Financial Controller, or similar role, ideally within media, advertising, sports, entertainment, technology
* Practical experience supporting a CEO and Board, including preparation of management and board reports and financial insights
* Experience working with shareholders and external stakeholders, including auditors, banks, and advisors
* Exposure to trans‐Tasman operations, including consolidation, cross‐border reporting, and statutory compliance across Australia and New Zealand
* Strong hands‐on capability across financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and management accounts
* Solid commercial finance experience, with involvement in contract review, pricing, revenue models, and margin analysis
* Experience managing capex and fixed assets, including investment analysis and asset tracking
* Sound understanding of cash flow, working capital, and basic financing arrangements
* Experience building, leading, or mentoring a small finance team
