Job DescriptionAbout the position
The ACO Paediatric Optometry Residency is a two-year, full-time appointment ideal for graduate optometrists with a passion for children's vision and a desire to pursue advanced clinical training in paediatric optometry.
This structured program allows residents to develop high-level skills in paediatric assessment, treatment, and management while contributing to health outcomes across ACO's network of clinics.
This unique clinical experience commencing at our 25 room Carlton clinic, will provide unparalleled access to peer feedback and assistance from experienced optometrists, many of whom were once part of our graduate program themselves.
All graduate optometrists and residents will also experience how a smaller clinic runs, working within ACO metropolitan clinics.
You will have access to a wide range of state-of-the-art ophthalmic technology.
Our specialty clinics will also help you to continue to develop your skills as an optometrist including our dedicated Paediatrics clinic, Specialist Contact Lenses, Glaucoma Clinic, and Dry Eye.

Accountabilities
Provide high-quality paediatric eye care services, including vision assessment, refraction, ocular health evaluation, and binocular vision testing for infants, toddlers, children, and adolescents.Communicate effectively and compassionately with children of all ages, adapting testing techniques to suit developmental levels and behavioural needs.Provide clinical services of a high quality and apply a high standard of clinical skill and knowledge, whilst working to established clinic protocols.Act always in a professional and ethical way in relationships with patients, colleagues, and other health care and service professionals.Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional conduct in all interactions with patients, colleagues, and external healthcare providers.Work independently while also collaborating with optometrists and support staff, proactively contributing to clinic operations.Desired Skills and ExperienceAbout you

Skills and Knowledge
Interest in paediatric optometry.Evidence of achievement and of commitment to high standards of clinical knowledge, empathy, and communication.Demonstrated enthusiasm for clinical care.Evidence of a strong service focus, including capacity to respond and show initiative in the provision of quality services.A strong motivation to serve the community and in particular people who are disadvantaged.Experience in working for a not for profit, or public health organisation will be well regarded.Registered to practice optometry in Australia.Valid Working with Children CheckWillingness and ability to travel to ACO metropolitan and outreach clinics across Victoria.All Optometrists are expected to provide their own hand held ophthalmic equipment.To apply please include your resume, a cover letter, a copy of your right to work in Australia, and copy of your transcript.
