About the Job
This role supports the business and involves advising on life insurance, superannuation, financial services and general corporate & commercial matters.
Key Responsibilities:
* Take a lead role in managing the conduct and resolution of disputes and litigated matters
* Manage external disputes lodged with AFCA and other external bodies
* Manage and instruct external law firms
* Effectively communicate with senior management/stakeholders around key legal issues and potential risks to the business
* Provide commercially focused high-quality legal advice
* Support capability uplift and mentor other team members
* Lead by example, role-modeling collaboration, innovation, and technical and service excellence
About You
Requirements:
* Australian legal qualifications and a current Australian unrestricted practising certificate.
* Experience acting or advising on litigation and dispute resolution.
* Ability to constructively challenge, consult and advise, whilst maintaining solid relationships.
* Ability to effectively negotiate, influence and engage a broad range of senior internal and external stakeholders to drive business outcome.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Extensive knowledge and practical understanding of applicable regulatory requirements and legal practices.
* Strong relationship management skills and an ability to interact professionally, discretely and confidently so as to be a trusted legal adviser.
* Excellent technical writing skills, including the ability to review and draft legal documents, policies and submissions.
* Strong time management skills and ability to manage conflicting deadlines.
* Flexibility and adaptability to manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Ideal Experience:
* 7+ PQE experience in relevant subject matter areas.
* Strong understanding of legal issues in financial services and life insurance.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Relevant experience and a proven track record in a financial services environment.
* Good understanding of the Australian insurance and superannuation industries.
* Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
