This position is ideal for candidates seeking long-term employment with 'hands-on' engineering management experience across a broad range of tasks such as repair, maintenance, and fabrication engineering, preferably in maritime and general engineering environments.
Reporting to the General Manager – Pearling Production, this Darwin-based role will oversee the efficient fabrication, repair, and maintenance operations of the Pearling Farm Engineering business unit, and provide engineering support across multiple sites such as Paspaley pearl farms in Broome (Western Australia), Paspaley vessels, and pontoons as needed.
Key responsibilities: Formulate an annual engineering plan to oversee maintenance and servicing of Paspaley assets and equipment across multiple sites. Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce breakdowns and optimize asset and equipment performance. Manage and coordinate maintenance teams, including Project Managers, in-house technicians, and external contractors. Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety, environmental, and industry regulations. Collaborate with Senior Pearling Production Management and project managers to align maintenance with project needs. Create, implement, and manage administrative processes for maintenance budgets, procurement, and parts inventory, including developing work instructions, drawings, and technical data for efficient project execution. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency. The successful candidate must have: Minimum of 5-10 years proven experience in fabrication, repair, and maintenance within the general engineering space, preferably with experience in marine, plant, or construction industries. A trade qualification (e.g., Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Fabrication Engineering) or relevant Motor Mechanic qualification. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to planning maintenance and repairs. Knowledge of safety and environmental compliance requirements in NT and WA. Experience with repair and maintenance management systems and reporting tools. Strong business development and technical knowledge of industrial equipment and machinery. Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders. Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, MS Teams, and SharePoint. Ability to undergo full pre-employment medical clearance, including drug and alcohol testing. Unrestricted driver's license – current at all times. Australian citizenship or full visa rights to work and reside in Australia.
