The Spatial Data Management Specialist will lead activities to assist in the development and maturity of Spatial Data Management, by employing technical skills and experience to support initiatives that embed an effective data management program.
The Spatial Data Management Specialist will also be responsible for assisting and promoting the Data Management governance by maintaining the spatial data catalogue and the spatial metadata; ensuring the data quality; executing profiling activities and enabling the exchange of spatial data between Melbourne Water and its customers.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and implement advanced automated processes to facilitate loading and exporting of spatial datasets
* Manage spatial data exchange with external customers
* Guidance of the development and active involvement in maturity of the Data Sharing Program
* Drive the improvement and use of spatial metadata
* Lead spatial data governance, including identifying and liaising frequently with both technical and business data owners
* Provide technical expertise on industry best practice in relation to data management
* Manage the procurement of spatial data, ensuring alignment with Business priorities and technical capabilities.
* Provide subject matter expertise and technical direction in the implementation of new spatial data management tools and processes, and other business initiated spatial projects.
* Ensure data quality through investigations, analysis and recommendations for improvement areas
* Taking care of own and colleagues Health and Safety through identification and reporting of hazards and active involvement in improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
* Extensive knowledge of spatial datasets (including imagery) and GIS tools such as Esri
* Extensive experience in advanced use of FME and other data manipulation tools
* Demonstrated experience in undertaking asset data analysis using SQL and spatial SQL
* Demonstrated knowledge of information systems, particularly the operation and management of data.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with internal and external customers.
* Ability to interpret computer terminology, data, standards, and instructions and relate information to the particular system.
* Considerable knowledge of documentation framework such as policies, procedures and work instructions.
* Able to develop and implement processes that support spatial data maintenance
* Strong understanding of spatial data access policies
* Expert technical knowledge and user of GIS.
