Aboriginal Mental Health Trainee - Infant, Child and Youth Program

Who We Are and What We Stand For
On 1 January **** five health services (Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service) will come together to create Bayside Health. A newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians.
The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January ****, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.
What You Will Be Doing
In **** the Victorian Department of Mental Health and Wellbeing established 'Balit Marrup', Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Framework. An objective of this framework is to increase opportunities and representation of First Nations People in the mental health workforce.
Peninsula Health Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PHMHWS) acknowledges and values the lived experience of our service consumers, carers and supports inclusive of their individual culture, resourcefulness, strengths and abilities. As such, delivering the Aboriginal Mental Health Traineeship is a valued opportunity for the organisation.
Willingness and eligibility to complete a three-year full-time Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) degree at Charles Sturt University via distance including four one week-long-residential intensives per year.
Applicants must be of Australian Aboriginal descent, identify as an Aboriginal person and be able to provide confirmation of Aboriginality (as defined by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies - refer to Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (aiatsis.gov.au)).
The applicant is interested in improving the mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal Victorians.
Demonstrates and maintains satisfactory academic results.
