Job Purpose
Assist with all daily aspects of the Nursery & Finishing section which includes: providing individual sow and piglet care; following herd health guidelines; and maintaining accurate records to achieve optimal production outcomes and high standards of animal welfare
Reports To
Section Coordinator / Animal Care Technician - Lead
Key Responsibilities
Perform required daily tasks in the Nursery & Finishing sections
Ensure that pigs have access to feed and water at all times
Monitor pigs daily for health issues and treat according to the Animal Care Plan
Assist with weekly movement of pigs from the nursery to finishing sections
Assist with selection and loading of finished market pigs and replacement gilts
Monitor room environments, including temperature and air quality
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene within the section
Remove deceased pigs and dispose of appropriately
Maintain and update all section records, including MetaFarms, worksheets, and door charts
Provide assistance to the Farrowing & Lactation section on weaning days
Assist with room preparation, including tear down, power washing, disinfection, and setup
Perform section preventative maintenance, conduct regular facility and equipment checks, and carry out basic repairs
Assist other sections as directed by the Production Manager
Attend staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled
Maintain consistent and punctual attendance
Follow all Fenor Farms production, health and safety, and biosecurity policies
Ensure animals are treated humanely and in compliance with the Animal Health and Welfare Act
Note: As with all positions, due to the dynamic nature of Arrow Group business, key responsibilities will evolve and change over time. Some travel will be required. Appointment to this role is subject to the candidate's eligibility to work in Ireland.
Skills / Qualifications / Experience
Requires intermediate English-language competency (reading, writing, conversational)
Flexibility to work weekend on a rotational roster
Basic technology skills to enter production data on a smartphone or tablet app
Previous experience in animal care preferred
Ability to follow animal care protocols and farm operating standards
Strong attention to detail and reliable record-keeping habits
Ability to work well as part of a team and follow direction
Self-motivated, dependable, and committed to animal welfare
Physically capable of manual tasks, including:
Standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching
Climbing gates up to 1 metre in height
Lifting, carrying, and moving items up to 20 kg
