The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT), as part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), has an exciting opportunity for a Governance Officer to join the Governance Team.
About the role
As a Governance Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the organisation's governance, compliance, and internal audit functions. Your responsibilities will include:
* Maintaining and managing legislative compliance frameworks and monitoring regulatory changes.
* Coordinating the development and review of governance policies, procedures, and registers.
* Tracking audit recommendations, maintaining audit documentation, and ensuring adherence to internal audit standards.
* Promoting integrity and ethical practices across the organisation through advice, training, and awareness activities.
* Preparing high-quality reports, briefs, and correspondence for senior management and governance committees.
* Building collaborative relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to implement best-practice governance.
About You
We are seeking a Governance Officer who is passionate about integrity, compliance, assurance, and delivering quality outcomes.
In this role, you will support governance frameworks, legislative compliance, and internal audit processes to ensure transparency and accountability across the organisation. You will bring strong communication skills to explain complex concepts clearly, collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and manage multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detail. Your ability to think critically, solve problems, and apply project management principles will be key to driving continuous improvement.
Experience in governance, compliance, or internal audit, along with knowledge of relevant standards and frameworks, will set you up for success.
Key knowledge and experience
* Demonstrated experience within a similar role and operating environment with responsibility in legislative compliance, policy, and internal audit.
* Demonstrated understanding of a governance framework and related frameworks such as legislative compliance, policy instruments management, and internal audit.
* Knowledge of the Internal Audit and Risk Management Policy for the General Government Sector (TPP20-08), and the Global Internal Audit Standards.

The New South Wales Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) is a not-for-profit statutory body, established under Part 10 of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and managed by a Board appointed by the Minister for the Environment.
The Trust's roles are to support and encourage landholders to enter into agreements to conserve and protect biodiversity on private land, guided by the government's Biodiversity Conservation Investment Strategy; secure biodiversity offsets when developers choose to pay into the Biodiversity Conservation Fund; and other activities that promote greater awareness of, appreciation and understanding of, biodiversity and the importance of conserving it.
We acknowledge the ongoing custodial responsibilities of the Aboriginal peoples of NSW to care for Country and are committed to establishing meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal peoples in the management of the environment.
Participation in the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme (BOS) and the BCT's private land conservation (PLC) programs
The successful applicant for this role will be required to declare any conflict of interests related to the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme, as defined in the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme Conflict of Interests Protocol. This ensures the department is made aware of potential conflicts of interest so they can be appropriately managed.
Where an applicant has a high-risk 'defined interest' in the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme, they may be required to divest this interest before being employed by the department.
