About the OrganisationOur client is a respected, community‑based not‑for‑profit organisation delivering a broad range of social and support services across the Northern Territory.
The OpportunityAn exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Finance Officer to provide high‑level financial leadership, oversight, and operational support across the to the Director of Corporate Services, this pivotal role has responsibility for payroll, financial operations, compliance, reporting, and mentoring finance team members. This position suits a technically strong finance professional who also brings empathy, integrity, and a collaborative leadership style.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Operations & Compliance
* End‑to‑end responsibility for payroll operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislation, awards, and organisational policies
* Timely resolution of payroll‑related enquiries
* Preparation and lodgement of statutory obligations including superannuation, BAS, PAYG and FBT
* Management of accounts receivable, including debt recovery and reconciliation of aged debtors
* Sound application of accruals, depreciation journals, accounts payable, and general ledger functions
* Completion of monthly, interim and year‑end financial processes, including balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
* Preparation of financial acquittals and management reports
* Coordination of interim and end‑of‑year audits, acting as a key contact for external auditors
Financial Systems, Controls & Governance
* Maintain integrity and effective operation of financial systems (MYOB), ensuring data accuracy and continuity
* Reconcile funding grants and maintain funding contract records to meet compliance requirements
* Manage petty cash, cab charges, and other reconciliations in line with delegations and internal controls
* Contribute to the review and continuous improvement of finance policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
* Budgeting, Forecasting & Organisational Support
* Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial models
* Provide high‑level financial advice and analysis to senior leaders to support organisational sustainability and planning
Leadership & Capability Development
* Provide training, mentoring, and technical guidance to finance staff
* Allocate workloads, review outputs, and support performance and capability development
* Foster a culture of accountability, confidentiality, and continuous improvement
* Professional & Continuous Improvement
* Manage sensitive financial and employee information with discretion and professionalism
* Identify efficiencies, risks, and opportunities for improved financial management
* Participate in finance, corporate services, and organisation‑wide improvement initiatives
* Undertake other duties consistent with the scope and seniority of the role
About YouEssential
* Qualification in accounting, commerce, or business
* Advanced experience across payroll, MYOB, and Microsoft Excel
* Strong knowledge of accounting standards, legislation, and financial controls within a not‑for‑profit environment
* Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage complex and sensitive information
* Highly developed communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills
* Experience working in confidential, deadline‑driven environments
* Demonstrated experience mentoring or training staff
* Willingness to undergo a National Police Check and NT Working with Children Clearance
Desirable
1. Progress towards CPA or CA qualification
