The role
As our Accounting Officer, you will report to the Accounting Manager and be part of a high‐performing team of accounting professionals. You will collaborate closely with the Finance team, other employees and senior managers, and executive leadership. You will also liaise with key external stakeholders – suppliers, auditors, financial and insurance institutions, legal representatives, the Australian Tax Office and funding bodies.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage financial practices in accordance with New Horizons policies and procedures
* Review and approve invoice coding
* Ensure accurate and timely processing and recording of invoices
* Process payments, petty cash, debit card and staff reimbursements
* Support month‐end close process, including review and maintain prepayment, accrual, contra and other balance sheet accounts
* Analyse costs and ensure records are accurate and up‐to‐date, including reviewing the coding of financial transactions
* Support the preparation of management reports, budgeting and forecasting from a cost perspective
* Perform bank and debit/credit card account reconciliations
* Raise general journals as needed
* Maintain fixed assets listings and monthly depreciation charges
* Review aging reports
* Utilise and protect New Horizons resources and facilities in line with policies and procedures
Skills & Experience Required
* Excellent numeracy and data analysis skills, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
* Proficiency in accounting software and spreadsheet programs
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
* A proactive approach to problem‐solving and process improvement
* Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant experience in a similar role
* Advanced Microsoft Office skills
* Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV is highly desirable
* Current Police Check (not older than 3 months), NDIS Check and NSW Working with Children Check
