Role SummaryLocation:Footscray/SunshineEmployment Type:Full TimeSalary:HM25 – HM30 + Superannuation + Salary PackagingAbout the role Applications are sought for the Y.L Lim Training Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Western Health.The Western Health Cardiology Department provides services targeted at the diagnosis, and interventional and treatment of patients who are affected by cardiovascular disease. Western Health Cardiology inpatient services and outpatient clinics are provided across Footscray and Sunshine Hospitals. We perform over 1000 PCIs per year and have a busy acute STEMI service linked with MICA and perform over 200 primary PCI per year.Western Health Cardiology has a major focus on teaching, training and research affiliated with the University of Melbourne. Registrars and Fellows are expected to be actively engaged in research projects and teaching. The department is involved in a number of international multicentre randomised trials as well as independent investigator-initiated research projects.The Western Health Cardiology Unit is serviced by over 20 VMO Cardiologists, 2 Fellows, 5 Registrars and 4 HMOs. The Registrars comprise of 5 Accredited Cardiology Advanced Trainees.The Fellowship was established in recognition of the significant contribution made by Professor Yean L. Lim AM to the development of Interventional Cardiology in Australia and particularly Melbourne's metropolitan west.The position commences in early February 2027 until February 2028. The Fellowship is dedicated to procedural interventional cardiology training and research in the field of interventional cardiology. Trainees will be involved in all aspects of percutaneous coronary intervention including complex cases such as chronic total occlusions, rotablation, bifurcation lesions, multi-vessel intervention, and unprotected left main stenting. The interventional fellow will be encouraged to think critically and there is an emphasis on utilising intravascular imaging, and coronary physiology in decision-making.The Interventional Fellow will also have the opportunity to be involved in selected structural cases such as transcatheter septal ablation, and balloon aortic valvuloplasty as well as mechanical circulatory support devices for patients with cardiogenic shock.Key ResponsibilitiesEnsure quality patient care via clinical assessment, admissions and development of management plansProvide day to day clinical management of patients and ensure attendance at ward roundsAssume responsibility for patient care in accordance with the care model of the ward/unit, ensuring that required clinical procedures are performed with appropriate training and supervisionParticipate in the development of discharge plans that reflect the needs of patients and their significant others and demonstrate understanding of the role of community providers. Assume responsibility for communication with community providersEnsure notification to the appropriate consultant of patients referred to the Department, and provision of initial assessment of referred patientsAbout YouSuccessful applicants will be eligible for training in percutaneous coronary interventions in accordance with CSANZ guidelines.The trainee will have completed core advanced FRACP training in Cardiology or its equivalent and have completed training in Diagnostic Catheterisation in accordance with CSANZ guidelines.Applicants must be eligible for appropriate registration with AHPRA.Trainees will be required to make a significant contribution to the pre-procedure assessment and post-operative patient care. They will be responsible for managing the appropriate work up of all patients likely to undergo PCI and manage cath lab scheduling to improve lab efficiency. They will be involved in the on‐call STEMI roster after hours and on weekend and attended rostered fortnightly interventional cardiology clinic. They will be responsible for assisting with regular audit of procedural outcomes and mortality and morbidity reviews. The Fellow will conduct an independent research project and be involved in ongoing research activities within the unit.
