Primary objective
The Assistant Director – Talent Acquisition leads a team of eight talent acquisition professionals dedicated to providing proactive
workforce planning and recruitment of high-quality classroom teachers, ensuring Northern Territory students benefit from a strong
and capable workforce.

Context statement
The Department of Education and Training delivers, supports, and regulates early childhood, school education, and training services
across the Northern Territory. With 153 government schools across six regions — Central, Big Rivers, Barkly, Top End, Darwin and
East Arnhem — 71 percent are located in remote or very remote communities. Talent, Attraction and Recruitment, within the
School Leadership Culture and Care team, comprises 13 staff dedicated to supporting principals to attract and recruit classroom
teachers for Northern Territory public schools.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead, mentor and manage the Talent Acquisition team and oversee end to end recruitment processes, ensuring a positive

experience for candidates and hiring managers.
2. Maintain strong, diverse talent pipelines to meet current and future classroom teacher hiring needs.
3. Develop and deliver innovative projects and initiatives to build a high-quality educator workforce across Northern Territory

Government schools.
4. Lead and coordinate workforce support and systems for talent acquisition activities in line with current legislation, policies,

and processes.
5. Build and sustain partnerships with internal and external, local and national level stakeholders - contributing own expertise

and harnessing expertise from stakeholders to achieve outcomes aligned to agency priorities.
6. Research, analysis and reporting on current and emerging national and local education workforce trends to inform the strategic

direction and the development of evidence-based initiatives.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Contemporary knowledge and experience of contemporary recruitment practices, including building talent pipelines and

sourcing strategies.
2. Proven ability to network and collaborate across an organisation, within schools and external stakeholders through the

initiation, planning, consultation and liaison, development and delivery of programs and initiatives.
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage a small team in a complex environment and problem solve.
4. Proven capability to operate effectively in a politically sensitive environment while maintaining high standards of

professionalism, ethics, departmental values and accountability.
5. Strong written communication, reporting, interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in the preparation of strategic

advice and support, briefings, reports and other correspondence detailed reports and correspondence.
6. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Comprehensive understanding

of cultural responsiveness in planning, attracting, recruiting, and deploying education workforce resources.

Desirable
1. Relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business and/or Marketing.
2. Knowledge of current and emerging labour market issues, risks and opportunities for the agency and sound knowledge of

contemporary public sector human resources management and recruitment.
