Senior Safety Professional Opportunity
The Australian Antarctic Division is seeking a highly experienced safety professional to join the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
Job Description:
The Senior Safety Advisor will be instrumental in implementing the AAD fatal risk management program, projects associated with the AAD Safety Improvement Plan, and associated governance and assurance activities.
This role supports the maintenance and continuous improvement of the AAD WHS Management System, contributing to effective safety management practice, championing a positive safety and risk culture, and developing strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
* Contribute to the implementation of the AAD fatal risk management program.
* Develop and maintain effective internal and external stakeholder working relationships.
* Maintain the AAD fatal risk register and AAD WHS hazard register.
* Identify significant emerging and current WHS risks.
* Facilitate the development, implementation, and assessment of critical controls.
* Coordinate WHS assurance activities, including verification of critical controls.
* Lead and assist in serious incident investigations and work with stakeholders to identify appropriate corrective actions.
* Monitor AAD incident-related corrective actions.
* Support Station WHS Officers and Station Safety Advisors.
* Develop and write reports for relevant committees.
* Deliver WHS training and briefings for expeditioners.
* Participate in the onboarding and training of expeditioners.
* Provide expert advice on WHS matters and source expert advice as required.
* Complete professional development to ensure currency of knowledge in WHS systems and technologies.
Requirements:
Experience working in WHS roles within high-risk work environments such as construction, petrochemical, mining or similar industries.
Knowledge related to occupational hygiene, hazardous chemical management, laboratory science, radiation safety, contractor management, remote operations, and WHS management systems.
Working knowledge of the Work Health Safety Act ****, Work Health and Safety Regulations ****, Work Health Safety Codes of Practice, and relevant Australian Standards.
High-level verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with a broad range of people.

Diploma in WHS.
