Reporting to the Executive Director Operations & Resourcing, this role provides strategic leadership to deliver high-quality operational services that drive strong business performance outcomes, uphold compliance and safety standards, and optimise service delivery across the network.

The position ensures that operational readiness, customer experience, and organisational priorities are aligned with Sydney Trains’ vision, values and objectives.

Through strong stakeholder engagement and decisive leadership, the role enables coordinated, customer-focused outcomes across operational teams and functions.

A core responsibility of the role is leading the Day of Operations- Stations function, ensuring seamless coordination between customer information, operational control, station management, and incident response teams to deliver safe, reliable and responsive services across more than 160 stations.

The role requires an influential and assertive leader who can operate effectively in a dynamic environment, providing direction during both normal operations and periods of disruption.

In addition, the role is accountable for operational readiness across the network.

This includes preparing stations and teams for planned trackwork, major events, emergency scenarios and large-scale operational changes.

By coordinating readiness activities and incident management responses, the role ensures stations are prepared to operate effectively each day and that coordinated responses are delivered during degraded operations, delays or incidents impacting the network.

Your ability to influence, collaborate and communicate effectively will be critical in driving outcomes across a complex operational environment, ensuring teams remain focused on delivering safe, reliable and customer-centred services.

You will play a key leadership role in ensuring accurate, timely and consistent communication across all passenger information channels, including station announcements, mobile applications, digital platforms and social media.

During incident modes or service disruptions, you will lead the coordination of real-time information flows, ensuring customers, frontline staff and key stakeholders are kept informed and able to respond quickly and effectively to changing operational conditions.

Above all, you model visible safety leadership and execute your safety responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities in alignment with Sydney Trains’ Safety Management System requirements.

You lead with authenticity, fairness and accountability, fostering a safe-to-work, safe-to-speak culture where diverse perspectives are valued and high performance is achieved through collaboration and respect.
