Primary objective
The role is responsible for the effective contract management of mechanical services repairs and maintenance contracts at
Palmerston Regional Hospital (PRH). This position also supports the contract management of mechanical services
maintenance period contracts for Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) and will interchange with the Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH)
Engineering Services Mechanical Manager as required.
Context statement
The Department of Logistics and Infrastructure – Hospital Engineering Services provide 24/7 multi-disciplinary support to
Royal Darwin and Palmerston Regional Hospitals. The team ensures Repairs and Maintenance is completed in accordance
with legislative, legal, and Australian Standards requirements, ensuring compliance with the National Safety and Quality
Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and the hospital accreditation cycle.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage all phases of allocated trade-based contract management, provide high level assistance and advice on contract-
related matters.
1. Recommend, implement and administer mechanical period contracts, ensuring compliance to NT Building Act,
Construction Code, Australian Standards legislative and legal requirements.
3. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.
4. Participate in the on-call roster for the provision of afterhours support to Royal Darwin and Palmerston Regional
Hospitals Engineering Services.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Mechanical fitting, or refrigeration trade qualifications and/or, an appropriate technical certificate, or a minimum of three
years' experience in a field of technical work related to the duties of the vacancy.
2. Demonstrated interpersonal and contract management skills including supervision of maintenance contractors.
1. Strong current technical knowledge and extensive experience in Centralised Plant and Building Mechanical Services,
including sound knowledge of the relevant Australian standards and mandatory maintenance obligations.
4. Ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of professional, technical, trades and administrative
people, maintaining professional interaction at all times.
5. Ability to manage pressure and change, analyse risk, apply discretion, initiative, confidentiality and adaptability, and meet
deadlines.
1. Proficient in the use of email and general Microsoft office programs.
Desirable
1. Experience at user/operator level with large scale mechanical systems such as Building Management System (BMS) and
/or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
2. Experience with Computer Managed Maintenance Systems.
Further information
The position will require a National Criminal History check, an Ochre Card, and a White Card (NT). The position is primarily
based at Palmerston Regional Hospital, however, will be required to work at Royal Darwin Hospital as needed
