Trainee Natural Area Management Officer
and gain hands-on experience while completing a Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management (Ecological Restoration).

As a Trainee Natural Area Management Officer, you'll work with a supportive team to look after natural areas that are home to rare and iconic plants and animals. Your days will be hands-on: controlling invasive weeds and restoring native habitats, planting native trees, and helping to monitor and protect local wildlife. You'll work alongside passionate professionals and learn to use tools and equipment safely.

Please note: To successfully complete the traineeship, you'll need to finish both on-the-job training and formal studies.

What You'll Do

* Learn about local ecosystems and how we manage and conserve them.
* Participate in bushland regeneration projects.
* Control weeds, plant and maintain native trees and help with other activities that improve the health of natural areas.
* Help monitor the condition of local flora and fauna to support conservation efforts.
* Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely.
* Follow environmental and workplace health and safety guidelines.
* Maintain satisfactory passing grades for all course units.

We're seeking someone who values the great outdoors, loves working with nature, has a passion for conservation, and is dedicated to managing, enriching, and preserving our natural environment. If you're curious, capable, and ready to get stuck in, you're already off to a great start

Essential Qualities And Requirements

* Genuine interest in and commitment to conserving and restoring Tweed Shire's unique ecosystems, flora, and fauna, with a desire to build a long-term career in natural area management.
* Able to commence employment by 23rdFebruary.
* Completion of Year 10 education (or higher).
* Good literacy and numeracy skills to facilitate working in a dynamic team and to observe, interpret and report on the condition of natural areas.
* Willingness to use tools and equipment required for bushland restoration and maintenance.
* Motivated and committed to completing a Certificate course while gaining hands-on experience through on-the-job training in a supportive team environment.
* A reliable and adaptable team player who can also work independently and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty.
* Strong work ethic, positive attitude and self-motivation.
* Physical capability to carry out fieldwork in varying terrain and weather conditions.
* Current driver's licence.
* Demonstrated commitment to safety, with a focus on personal wellbeing and contributing to a safe team environment.
