We are currently looking for a full time permanent Engagement Manager, Early Career Solicitors,to join our Membership and Engagement team.
About the role
The Engagement Manager, Early Career Solicitors, is responsible for developing and executing initiatives that support the early career solicitor segment across the NSW profession, including NSW Young Lawyers. You will design and deliver high quality engagement and development activities, promote membership, and showcase the resources and opportunities available to emerging legal professionals.
You will manage key stakeholder relationships and work closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver programs, resources, and activities that build capability and support progression across the early career and student segments. All initiatives and activities are aligned with organisational strategic priorities and contribute to a strong, well supported early career solicitor cohort.
What you'll be doing
People leadership and team management
* Lead, mentor and develop direct reports, fostering a supportive and high performing team culture.
* Manage performance, development plans, and regular check ins while overseeing workload, ensure clarity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Model and promote values based leadership, professionalism, care, and a commitment to quality outcomes.
* Foster a collaborative, service oriented culture focused on delivery, operational excellence and member experience.
* Oversee the Senior Student Engagement Specialist with student member acquisition and retention activities.
* Work with the Senior Student Engagement Specialist to operationalise student, graduate, and early career solicitor employment initiatives in collaboration with universities and employers.
* Maintain strong relationships with universities, employers, and other stakeholders to support program delivery and engagement.
Operational management and program delivery
* Working with managers to develop initiatives that support the early career solicitor segment across the NSW profession, including NSW Young Lawyers.
* Implement strategic priorities, engagement approaches, and program directions, as recommended by the Membership and Engagement Director and Leadership team.
* Translate strategic guidance and recommendations into operational plans, workflows, and deliverables for the team.
* Provide feedback and insights from program delivery to support continuous improvement and future strategic planning.
* Manage the planning, coordination and delivery of programs, events and initiatives for early career solicitors and NSW Young Lawyers.
* Manage the cost centre budget for the Students and Early Career Solicitors team, ensuring responsible financial stewardship and alignment with approved budgets.
* Work with IT and Licensing teams to ensure consistent and timely membership renewals and related communications, particularly for student membership.
Committee governance and support
* Manage the NSW Young Lawyers committee, working closely with the NSW Young Lawyers President on governance, committee operations, and the delivery of committee initiatives.
* Manage operational support for committee activities, including scheduling, documentation, submissions, and project delivery.
* Support the committee with identification and engagement of appropriate speakers and subject matter experts for committee related engagement initiatives, events, projects, and publications.
About you
* Demonstrated experience in account management, business development, stakeholder engagement, or relationship‐focused roles.
* Proven ability to develop and deliver engagement or acquisition initiatives within a professional, membership, or service oriented environment.
* Experience managing complex or sensitive stakeholder relationships with professionalism, diplomacy, and confidence.
* Experience leading or coaching team members, including goal setting, performance support, and workload coordination.
* Tertiary qualifications in law, business, communications, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
* Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including, e‐mail and internet applications. data base applications and experience using programs, such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
* Exceptional relationship‐building skills, with the ability to establish trust, manage expectations, and maintain productive stakeholder partnerships.
* Demonstrated stakeholder management with tact, diplomacy, confidence, and sound judgment.
* High resilience, remaining calm, professional, and outcomes‐focused in challenging or high‐pressure environments.
* Able to hold boundaries, stay aligned with organisational objectives, and maintain direction when faced with pushback.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with adaptable messaging for diverse early‐career and student audiences.

About the team
This role sits within the Membership and Engagement Department, which is responsible for creating meaningful content, programs and experiences that support, connect and engage members and the broader legal profession across all stages of their careers.
The Students and Early Career Solicitors team supports high school and law students, graduates and early career solicitors through a range of programs, resources and engagement opportunities. The team plays a key role in fostering the development and progression of the next generation of the profession, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver impactful initiatives that strengthen pathways into, and through the early stages of a legal career.
