This role requires someone who is experienced in urban greening, has proven experience in engaging and inspiring partners to embrace greening outcomes, who understands the characteristics of trees and the importance of design and planning in regards to the provisions of trees.
Council has achieved an increase in tree canopy cover by increasing cover from around 6% to almost 12%, which has had a big impact on greening public spaces. In addition to the public realm, Brimbank was one of the first Councils in Melbourne to successfully change planning schedules to specifically include tree planting on private land.
Council is now seeking to further increase tree canopy cover on private land by establishing and managing a Significant Tree Protection Register for trees on private land and engaging with private land owners to green their properties. The Urban Forest Advocate will be responsible for these important greening deliverables.
