We're looking for a capable and detail-focused Part-Time Assistant Accountant to support the finance function across a growing services group.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role plays a key part in day-to-day accounting, and compliance with sector funding requirements. It's a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys variety, responsibility, and working closely with stakeholders across the business.
The role is 25 hours per week and can be split flexibly to suit the right person.
Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial Operations
* Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
* Maintain the general ledger, including journals and reconciliations
* Process accounts payable and receivable
* Support cash flow monitoring and bank reconciliations
* Act as the first point of contact for finance-related queries from the team
* Assist with payroll processing and payroll reconciliations
Funding & Reporting
* Assist with government funding submissions and reporting
* Support compliance with funding agreements and regulations
* Prepare documentation for audits, inspections, and funding reviews
Budgeting & Financial Analysis
* Assist with setting up and administering budgets and forecasts
* Track expenditure and investigate variances
* Prepare financial reports to support management decision-making
Compliance & Controls
* Support internal controls, policies, and accurate record keeping
* Assist with statutory compliance, including BAS, IAS, and Payroll Tax lodgements
Systems & Process Support
* Set up and maintain user access to finance systems
* Assist with process improvements and system updates
* Provide general finance and accounting support as required
About You
* Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
* 2–5 years' experience in an accounting or finance role
* Working knowledge of accounting principles and payroll processes
* Experience using accounting software (Xero preferred)
* Strong Excel skills and confidence working with data
* High attention to detail with strong organisational skills
* Able to work independently while collaborating with a wider team
* Clear communicator with a professional and approachable style
Nice to Have
* Experience in publicly funded environments
* Exposure to government funding models and compliance requirements
* Progress toward or completion of CPA or equivalent qualification
