The role you will play
As a back‑end focused engineer, you will architect, develop, and maintain scalable APIs, document solutions, build integration applications, and collaborate with internal and external customers to incorporate feedback. You should be an expert in Python, delivering high code velocity and quality.
Key responsibilities
- Develop scalable, reliable, high‑performance endpoints
- Participate in system scoping discussions, technical specifications, and code reviews
- Maintain backend best practices focusing on scalability and reliability
- Create robust test cases for new platform and API features
- Deploy changes and migrations to customers in an agile, backward‑compatible manner
- Mentor fellow engineers via code reviews and technical sessions
- Troubleshoot production issues across service levels
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to scope out and deliver new features and roadmap items
- Participate in on‑site mentorship and cross‑team collaboration sessions
Our ideal candidate must have
- A BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 4+ years of professional backend software development, including API product experience
- Deep understanding of modern Python and its ecosystem
- Solid grasp of full‑stack technologies required to build and run APIs (Render’s API uses FastAPI)
- Expertise in RESTful API design and management
- Proficiency in SQL, database design, and performance best practices
- Experience working within AWS
- Production experience with observability tooling (Datadog, New Relic, etc.)
- Solid understanding of CI/CD methodologies and pipeline build experience
- Experience with agile software development methodologies
- Strong communication, collaboration, and delegation skills
- Ability to collect and document technical requirements and specifications
