Primary objective
Plan, conduct, review, direct and supervise research and extension programs in livestock production in the Northern
Territory, and to provide leadership for the Katherine Livestock Industry group.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Identify, plan, coordinate and conduct research and development programs to improve the sustainable productivity and
profitability of the beef cattle industry in the Katherine region.
2. Prepare scientific papers, technical reports, extension articles and project proposals.
3. Provide supervision and leadership to the Katherine Livestock Industry team of professional and technical staff to achieve
the effective function of livestock industries research and extension programs.
Communicate, negotiate and collaborate with other NT DAF staff, and other agencies, organisations, and funding bodies
to optimise research projects and programs.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A bachelor degree in agricultural science or equivalent, with extensive research experience relevant to the north
Australian beef industry.
2. Demonstrated ability to identify issues requiring research relevant to the north Australian cattle industry, and to design,
conduct and analyse research projects with beef cattle (including project development, budgets, reporting and managing
staff to achieve research aims).
3. Demonstrated experience in writing scientific papers and research and extension reports.
4. Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining strategic relationships with other agencies, industry and the
community.
5. Ability to work effectively, both independently and as a member or leader of a research group.
6. Demonstrated experience in staff supervision and development and team leadership.
