Salary: $51,409.20 (Prorated) + 12% Superannuation.
Overview
Support hands‑on STEM learning by running safe, efficient, and well‑equipped teaching laboratories. You'll lead lab setups, manage equipment and chemicals, ensure OH&S compliance, and assist staff with practical classes.

About the Role
As a Laboratory Technician reporting to the Foundation Studies Team Lead (STREAM‑STEM), you will support STEM education by ensuring our teaching laboratories are safe, well‑organised and ready for engaging, hands‑on learning. You'll manage equipment, materials and chemical inventories, maintain safety and quality processes, and provide technical support to academic staff during practical classes. This role also involves conducting lab inductions, upholding OH&S compliance and contributing to a positive learning environment for both students and teachers.
About You
* Completion of a degree in a STEM based area, preferably in Applied Science (laboratory technology, Biology, Chemistry or related).
* Experience in providing technical laboratory support to science teachers or in laboratory support for Foundation Studies Biology, Chemistry and Physics classes. Skilled in managing and maintaining laboratory equipment, instruments and physical resources.
* Competent in handling, storing and disposing of chemicals and hazardous substances safely.
* Able to conduct laboratory inductions for students, new staff and teachers, ensuring safety protocols are understood and followed.
* Proficient in maintaining lab documentation, including risk assessments, equipment registers, chemical inventories and SDS management.
* Able to set up, deliver and clean up practical classes efficiently while assisting academic staff with demonstrations and specialised techniques.
* Detail‑oriented, proactive and capable of ensuring a professional, organised and safe laboratory environment.
* Strong communication skills and enjoys working collaboratively with students, staff and academic teams.
