About this opportunity This position coordinates the actions and programs for achieving outcomes of Council's Biosecurity Plan and corporate vision for biosecurity in the region, whilst ensuring efficient and effective delivery of invasive plant and animal management. The position will consult and partner with government agencies, community groups, businesses and landowners to achieve positive biosecurity outcomes. Additionally, you’ll also … • Develop, lead and monitor the delivery of Council's Biosecurity policies and programs, including managing community education activities, awareness campaigns, surveillance programs, biosecurity programs and associated reporting. • Mentor and guide Biosecurity Officers in the delivery of private property support activities, including site inspections, invasive species identification, property pest management planning in accordance with best practice management. • Mentor and guide Biosecurity Officers in the investigation and enforcement of non-compliance of legislative responsibilities relating to invasive plants and animals, in accordance with legislative requirements and Council's corporate objectives. • Provide specialist advice to the Principal Specialist and Council regarding issues and outcomes, relating to the coordination and oversight of activities for the management of invasive plants and animals in the Scenic Rim region, consistent with Council's legislative obligations and corporate vision. • Respond to and allocate complex community enquiries, requests for information and referral points to local and State agencies and service providers in relation to biosecurity matters. About you… • Degree or higher qualification relating to the discipline and extensive relative experience, or less formal qualifications with the addition of considerable skills and extensive relevant experience. • Well-developed knowledge and experience in invasive species management techniques, supported by knowledge of the invasive plants and animals that occur in South-East Queensland. • Comprehensive knowledge of statutory requirements relevant to the management of invasive pest species for Local Government (Qld). • Experience in leading a specialised team and have an ability to provide specialised advice and consultation to Council and government agencies (desirable). • Significant experience in planning, implementation and coordination of community and Council biosecurity programs and initiatives such as baiting programs, landholder incentive programs or surveillance programs. • Hold or possess the ability to obtain: Approval for the use of Fluoro acetic and Strychnine – Health Regulation 1996 Commercial operator's licence – Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control Act 1966 Local Government Powers of Entry training A firearms licence, and act as the group licence holder on behalf of Council (desirable) What’s in it for you?
